Winter is on the corner, so let´s go Kitesurfing in October before you get frozen!
October is the month that brings the fall season with it and thus signifies the change of the season… It is officially the month that marks the end of summer as the world gets ready to prepare for the winter months ahead. This change of season means a lot of different trade winds in October as well… And for kitesurfers, all they need is strong and consistent wind to truly enjoy this wind and water sports!
During October, you will notice that the seawater starts to get cold, and even the wind gets stronger in many parts of the world. Due to the changing season, the number of tourists in the famous spots also drops significantly.
But as the heat slowly starts to leave the Northern Hemisphere, things start to get traction in the Southern Hemisphere. So although the temperature starts to drop in October, it isn’t as bad as the full winter months – This means that you can get one last chance to go on a kitesurfing vacation before the winter season shows its true colors.
To help you have the most out of October, we have compiled a list of the best kitesurfing destinations in October so that you do not have to spend a lot of time searching! But before we get to that list, let’s look at some of the reasons why you should go kitesurfing in October!

Why Go Kitesurfing in October
Before we look at potential kite spots in October, let’s take a quick look at why it is a good idea to go kitesurfing in October:
Changing Seasons
October is the month that truly brings a change to the season… With the end of summer, the fall season officially starts in October, and the world gets ready for the intense winter months ahead. However, the water temperature and the outside temperature still remain comfortable in most of the kitesurfing destinations.
So if you want to experience the changing season or just want to feel true freedom ahead of the winter season, then go for kitesurfing during October!
Strong Winds
October is the month during which strong winds are found in pretty much all the top kitesurfing destinations around the world! For experienced kiters and even those who want a little more thrill, there’s no better month than October for kitesurfing!
Fewer People
With changing seasons, strong winds, and the arrival of winter, you will notice that there are far fewer people on the beaches as compared to other months of the year!
This means more privacy for you and even more freedom on the sea as there will be fewer people competing for the same space! So if you are bothered by big crowds, which are usually found at exotic spots, then you should book a vacation for the month of October.
Affordable Flights
Another reason which makes October such a good month for kitesurfing is the affordable flights. The time from August till mid-October is historically known for cheaper flights as fewer people tend to do international traveling. So that’s another plus point if you decide to do kitesurfing during October!
Relatively Warm Temperature
You can’t expect the same warm temperature in October as witnessed in June or July… But when we compare it with the winter months ahead, the temperature tends to be relatively warm in October!

Best Kitesurfing Destinations to Visit in October
Let’s look at the best kitesurfing destinations October which is famous among surfers:
1. Guincho Beach (Portugal)
The first spot on our list is Guincho Beach from Portugal, which offers a great playground for kitesurfers of all skill levels. In total, the shore of Guincho Beach is around 10 KM which means a lot of freedom and a lot of potential spots for kitesurfing.
From Lisbon city, you can get to this coastal town by taxi, train, or even bus. So in terms of traveling, there are plenty of available options to reach this amazing place.
I know I mentioned earlier that this place is great for kitesurfers of all skill levels. But during the month of October, winds tend to be stronger, which means only experienced kitesurfers should go during this month. For the new kitesurfers, it is actually more of a challenge since the beach tends to be very windy. But if you are up to the challenge, then it could also significantly improve your skill levels! However, make sure that there are safety boats nearby when you try a challenge like this!
During October, the wind speed on this beach can average around 20 knots to 30 knots (this is strong wind)… So if you are a beginner or still want to polish your skills, then make sure to check the weather forecast before going to the sea.
2. Texel (Netherland)
If you are looking for a kitesurfing spot in Europe, then the best country is the Netherlands for the month of October. To reach Texel, you can take a ferry from the mainland, which will only take around 20 minutes. So traveling to this kitesurfing spot in the Netherlands is relatively easy and even affordable.
In Texel, the beach stretches for 20 KM and generally offers good winds throughout October. As for the water situation, you can find both flat water and even waves if that’s what you are looking into. And if you are someone who prefers long downwinders, then the spot of choice is Texel too!
And as mentioned earlier, you will not find that much of a crowd in Texel during October… So if you are someone who loves the calm and want to hear the sound of waves without people, then go for Texel!
3. Taiba (Brazil)
In Brazil, one of the best places you can visit during October is Taiba which basically offers all the things you need for a good kitesurfing tour! In terms of wind speeds, it starts at around 18 knots and can go as high as 28 knots too. Normally, you will be able to enjoy good winds throughout the day, but a little before sunset, the wind tends to drop a little.
As for the weather condition in Taiba, it is still relatively warm, with around 25 to 27-degree centigrade temperature of the water, and the air temperature is also great (26 to 32-degree centigrade).
4. Palanga (Lithuania)
If you are still looking for more options, then let me recommend Palanga – A great kitesurfing destination located in Lithuania that offers great conditions during October. This place is perfect for landboarding, kitesurfing, or just surfing in general!
The coast is around 18 KM long, and the sandy beaches are up to 300 M long – So, by just looking at these statistics, you can know that it is a famous spot in Lithuania and remains busy throughout the summer season.
The water and wind conditions can get a little rough sometimes, which is why we only recommend this spot to the experts.
5. Hamata (Egypt)
Are you looking for a kitesurfing spot with crystal-clear water and perfect conditions for both beginners and experts? Then we recommend you visit Hamata, located in Egypt, which is even better during the month of October!
When compared with other Egyptian spots, you will find that it is a lot more diverse and green… If the thought of Egypt brings sand deserts and pyramids to your mind, then seeing this place will change your perspective of this beautiful and historic country.
In terms of wind speed, there’s no place in entire Egypt that can even come to the Hamata. And to make it even more amazing, you can reach Egypt from any of the European countries in very less time!
When visiting Hamata, you will be able to see the reefs while on the surface – Yes, the water is so clear that it feels like you are in an aquarium.
So if you are used to the traditional kitesurfing destinations and looking for a change of pace, then there’s no reason not to check the Hamata from Egypt. And when you are done with kitesurfing, you can also visit the historical places in Egypt and get a taste of ancient civilizations!
Conclusion
October brings a change of season with it and strong winds throughout the world. With so much changing on the outside, it doesn’t make sense to spend the month of October in your home. In fact, you will be able to enjoy even more as tourists and even fellow surfers usually take a break during October for several reasons.
And did I mention that even the flights tend to be more affordable in October? Yes, that’s also a major plus point if you decide to go kitesurfing in October!
Last but not least, you do need to keep in mind that the wind tends to be fairly strong in October. If you look at various kitesurfing spots in October, the wind there will be strong… So with that in mind, it may not be a good idea to go kitesurfing if you are not an experienced surfer. And as it goes with planning any kitesurfing journey, always remember to check the wind and temperature conditions ahead of time!
